A video is worth a thousand thoughts: comparing a video mood induction procedure to an autobiographical recall technique

Objective: Two common mood induction procedures (MIPs) use autobiographical recall (AR) or video clips. The first relies upon internal generation of states whereas the second presents external information to elicit emotion. Often new clips are created for each experiment. However, no study has examined efficacy and specificity a freely available clip compared AR in other studies.Method: In present experiment, participants watched either engaged induce an emotional state. Participants were 53 University year psychology students who took part course credit.Results: anger was more effective at increasing target emotion (anger) decreasing non-target emotions - happiness serenity. Compared baseline both scores higher than sadness scores.Conclusion: response recalling personal events is influenced by personality characteristics such as trait neuroticism stimulus, which proved cleaner stimulus. Implications future research media discussed.
